Hereditary Pros & Cons of Designer Breeds

When it comes to picking out the perfect pooch for you and your family, there are a lot of different factors at play. Recently, there has been a rise in "Designer Breeds" due to their lovable personalities and dashing good looks. However, each of these breeds comes with their own set of pros and cons.

Below, we'll dive into what you can expect from Bernedoodle, Labradoodle, Sheepadoodle, and Goldendoodle dogs. You're sure to fall in love with one of these curly-haired cuties.

What to Expect from Designer Breeds

It's important to note that with any designer breed, including Doodle mixes, you can't fully predict personality or temperament. Your doodle is likely to present qualities more similar to one parent than another. It's almost impossible to get a 50/50 split, especially if your Doodle breeder isn't well-versed in your dog pedigree.

That being said, these characteristics are general outlines of designer breeds, but every dog is different. A lot of your dog's personality can be attributed to training as well- While Bernedoodles, for example, are characteristically great with kids, if they aren't socialized from an early age, it's quite possible that they'll be aloof or even wary of children. Therefore, take a designer breed's predisposition into account, but make sure you're still putting in the work.

These loving mixes are also highly in demand, so don't expect to find a puppy right away; many breeders have potential puppy families on a waiting list for the next litter, sometimes years in advance. If a Breeder seems to have designer puppies readily available, it could be a sign that they are a puppy mill or practicing unethical breeding.Be sure to conduct extensive research on the breeder themselves before committing to a new furry friend.

The Bernedoodle

Once If you're looking for a loyal companion, a Bernedoodle is certainly the dog for you. This breed is a cross between the loving Bernese Mountain Dog and the intelligent Poodle. Bernedoodles are excellent companion dogs and are generally great with children, making them amazing family members.

These pups crave a great deal of attention, so they're likely to thrive in busy homes where there is always something to them occupied. these cuddly cuties have no problem doling out affection and are pretty quick to learn tricks if it means pleasing their owners.

It is worth noting that Bernedoodles commonly develop hip and skin issues due to their Bernese Mountain Dog genes. Moreover, Bernedoodles might be on the larger side in comparison to other designer breeds, so they're likely to require more upkeep. However, Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes based on the cross of the poodle parent, so you can find miniature Bernedoodles if space is a concern.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for their flowy, regularly shedding coat. Luckily, most Bernedoodles inherit a low-maintenance coat from their poodle parents so you won't have to worry about too much shedding.

You'll find that as long as a Bernedoodle gets to be around his family, he is one happy pup. Bernedoodles are total sweethearts that are sure to win you over with their loving, gentle disposition and tri-color coats.

The Labradoodle

The Labradoodle is the adorable cross between a Labrador Retriever and Poodle. These popular pups were originally bred to be service dogs with hypoallergenic coats, but they make superb family companions as well.

Labradoodles are full of energy and are always ready to play. That being said, you'll want to make sure you train your Labradoodle early on to make sure that they develop good manners, especially around small kids who they could unintentionally knockdown out of excitement. These dogs are happiest with lots of room to roam and plenty to keep them busy.

Due to their retriever blood, Labradoodles often develop conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and occasionally bleeding disorders. Look into stem cell banking during the spay/neuter to help your pup as it ages. These energetic dogs like to stay busy, so you'll want to make sure you have lots of puzzle toys at home. Plan on taking Fido out for long walks throughout the day so that they can burn off some of their energy. At the end of a long day, a Labradoodle is happy to cuddle up next to the people he loves most.

The Sheepadoodle

These scruffy sweethearts are a cross between a Poodle and an Old English Sheepdog. This designer breed is incredibly smart and will enjoy learning new tricks alongside their owner and are incredibly loyal. Sheepaddoles are also great at reading emotions, so they are well suited for therapy or support work.

These affectionate dogs love to be the center of attention and are likely to follow you throughout the house. You'll want to focus on early socialization since the Old English Sheepdog side can make them a little wary of strangers or other dogs. They also might have a herding instinct, which should be curbed early-on. Sheepaddoles are great around adults and kids and thrive in busy households where there is always something to keep them entertained.

Sheepadoodles are sometimes predisposed to develop hip dysplasia, joint issues, and Addison's disease. These pups will require daily walks and a good amount of exercise to stay at their best.

Overall, Sheepadoodles are amazingly loyal dogs with a playful personality that is sure to win over your heart in no time at all.

You'll also want to make sure you find your Goldendoodle from a reputable breeder since they are so popular. Unfortunately, many Goldendoodles come from puppy milss or irresponsible breeders.

Though Goldendoodles have an average energy level, they appreciate room to run around and play. Like most other Doodles, they do best in homes where someone is always around since they love being around their families.

Goldendoodles are cuddly, social dogs that will do well around kids and other pets. You're sure to fall in love with one of these caring canines.
