FELINE OSTEOARTHRITIS (OA) STUDY
HOPE FOR CATS WITH JOINT PAIN
A STEM CELL TREATMENT IS NOW BEING STUDIED WITH OA
Do you have a cat that has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis or is showing any of these signs:
- Jumping, running, or playing less than before?
- Grumpier or quieter than before?
- Trouble using the litter box?
- Grooming less than before?
If so, your cat may have Osteoarthritis (OA).
OA is a common disease in middle aged older cats. In cats with OA the cartilage in their joints gradually breaks down over time, leading to the bones to rub together and cause permanent damage. This can lead to pain, inflammation, swelling in the joint, and decreased range of motion. The most common way to diagnose OA is to ask your veterinarian to take radiographs (X-rays).
WHY SHOULD MY CAT BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS STUDY?
- Your cat will receive specialty veterinary care throughout the study, including physical exams, radiographs, blood work, and urinalysis at NO OUT-OF-POCKET cost to you.
- Your cat may play an important role in advancing feline medicine.
This study may be used to support a new animal drug application to be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration.
Why Stem Cells?
The stem cells used in this product are derived from a healthy donor cat’s uterus that is collected during a routine spay procedure. Rather than the uterus being discarded as normal after surgery, it is packaged in a sterile manner and shipped to Gallant for harvesting of the cells. The donor cat recovers normally from the spay procedure.
The mesenchymal stem cells are harvested, cultured, expanded, and frozen at ultra cold temperatures to provide a source of live cells once thawed at the time of treatment. These stem cells have the ability to regulate the immune system through cellular signaling. This provides a natural mechanism for the treatment of disease and restores normal biologic function.
